Turning 40…
It has been two days since that proverbial time clock flipped over to forty for me, and so now that the shock has worn off that I’ve lived this long, I thought I’d share with you a few things that I did on Thursday.
I have read a number of blogs this year where men have turned 40 and as I have read their thoughts, I have to laugh at the differences between men and women. Women and men are sooooo different when it comes to age. When a man has gray hair it’s called distinguished, but when a woman has gray hair it means she doesn’t color it! Well, this woman has decided to not color my hair anymore. For a few reasons, first and foremost, it’s just a pain and it costs too much money. That and I enjoy this process of aging. (Yes, I know, not normal for a woman to say)
Anyway, since it was the big 4-0 I decided to go to San Diego and attend the first Women in Christian Media San Diego West Coast Connection dinner that they had. You may have noted the graphic on the sidebar showing you that I am a member of Women in Christian Media…and if you didn’t, just look right.
So I got to the hotel and after checking in with my wonderful husband Randall, who bought me a Garmin GPS system for my birthday. (He knows I love techy stuff and he surprised me with that GPS) I went to the registration table and guess who was there - if you said Kay Arthur you’d be right. (After all there is the picture of her and me right up there in the left hand corner of the screen).
It was such a delight to see her there and be able to share with her a few things about the work I do, as well as wish her an early happy 75th birthday next month.
I also met Kathi Macias around the same time, as I entered the dining area - and that was so very cool. Cool because I have done 3 interviews with Kathi and spent a number of hours on the phone discussing various things. Kathi is a precious, precious lady of the Word and is wise, witty and absolutely loving. So it was great to meet her finally!
After meeting Kathi, I was introduced to a number of others that I had either known or was familiar with their work.
And then, we had dinner and Kay gave the speech that all Pastor’s should be giving to their churches. (Sorry pastors, most of you have dropped the ball and it is like a woman to show you how to do it)
Maybe I’ll share more of the content of that speech later, but it would be better if you just listened to Kay yourself. You can listen to her at her website http:www.precept.org and you can either listen, or watch her teach.
After the events of the night, Randall and I spent the night in San Diego and then rested. He enjoyed a pizza and movie while I was at the dinner and then we enjoyed a very relaxing Friday.
And on top of all of that, I had so many people wish me a happy 40th, and it was a great day.
But then, today I heard this comment. “Ladies…if you’re under 30 you’re considered young” - To which I laughed and thought, well, it’s official, I’m a middle aged woman. And boy am I glad!
