Podcast: Porn Nation – Part I

Picture 37

A couple of days ago I had the opportunity to speak to Michael Leahy, author of Porn Nation, about his struggle with pornography and I feel this is a book that everyone concerned with addiction and the prevalence of pornography in our society should read.

I highly recommend every pastor or anyone in ministry read this book. Michael and I talk about his story, which is compelling, moving, very intimate and real. This is a book that deals in the reality of the damage that porn addiction is. Leahy discusses how he literally lost everything because of his addiction, and he also talks about his recovery and gives counsel to those who may be struggling in this area.

This is part one of two and I want to encourage you to listen and then pass it on to your friends.

More Bloggers In Hot Water

I was just reading through a great newsletter I get every Friday on internet safety issues written by Anne Collier, co-author of the book My Space Unraveled.

Bloggers are getting more attention from lawyers, these days. They’re “starting to receive legal letters when they upset someone with enough money to hire a media lawyer,” the Financial Times reports , and “defamation, offensive messages, incitement, compromising intellectual property, linking to illegal websites, and inaccurate reporting can all get you into hot water, regardless of whether you are a blogger, journalist, publisher or an e-mail user.” This is an opportunity for all of us – parents and young people – to learn more about their free speech rights. “Just 5% of internet users are clear on their legal rights and responsibilities when posting comment online,” the FT cites a law firm’s research as showing. The study found that 77% of bloggers are “uncertain or unaware of where the law stands.”

Fireproof or the Debate?

Okay, so it’s also Friday and this is my weekly date night with my husband. The question is, what do we want to do – stay home and watch McCain and Obama slug it out, or go to see Fireproof starring Kirk Cameron tonight? Hmmmm.

Well, duh… Fireproof hands down!

First of all, I have been getting slammed with emails daily to remind me that the movie opens today. Secondly, this movie is from the creators of Facing the Giants, which was an outstanding movie.

Third, this is a pro-Christian family movie and I enjoy Kirk Cameron in pretty much anything he does.

Here’s more information so you can learn more and then go and see it yourself. It’s sure to be a box office success.

Kirk Cameron: I Only Kiss My Wife … Even on Screen

1,596

I have been extremely BUSY the last few weeks and haven’t been blogging as much as I have wanted to. But when I saw my friend Melissa’s post about coming up on her 500th blog post, I thought, I think I’ve blogged a few more posts than that. (not that I’m competitive or anything) :) Which, incidentally I am, but she hasn’t been blogging as long as I have – so in this case it really doesn’t matter.

Anyway, so I thought I’d share with you my 1,596th post today. I figured, even though I’m a first born, middle child, I do not have to wait for my 1600th post because I’m not into perfection. Now, if I was Monk, then maybe I would’ve waited until my 2000nd post….

But wait – first born middle child you say???? What? It’s true – I’m the first born female and middle child. I had two brothers and I was stuck in between them in the birth order. Which really is funny to think about. I always felt like a middle child, mainly because that is how I was identified by my mom. But recently, I’ve come to discover that I really am more of a first born. Which is pretty indicative of my career, drive and achievement that I’ve accomplished in life. I’ve been reading Dr. Kevin Leman’s book The New Birth Order in case you’re wondering.

Anyway…

Here’s the thing. I have been doing a lot of interviews, as well as attending some tea’s in my local community, taking on a few investigative reporting jobs, (which are a lot of work), and getting ready to do more speaking on internet safety and human trafficking. As well as blogging about Christian persecution, telling everyone I know to vote Yes on Prop 8 and of course, taking care of my husband and 4 animals.

Oh…and did I tell you that I’ll be turning 40 in a few weeks? Well, that is one exciting thing too!

The big 4 – 0 – it makes me laugh just saying that. I remember when I turned 30 and freaked out, but turning 40 seems really cool. Maybe because as I’ve gotten older, my life has gotten better.

So, if you’d like to give me a gift, for my 40th birthday, online gift certificates from Amazon would be welcomed. But don’t feel obligated.

:)

I’ll have more later…now I have to hit my email again and get back to some investigative things I’m doing.

Podcast: Dr. Paul Tripp on his book Whiter Than Snow

Listen to our podcast with Dr. Paul Tripp

A few days ago I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing Dr. Paul Tripp concerning his first book published by Crossway Publishers. Whiter Than Snow was one of the best books that I have ever read on the subject of God’s tremendous grace and mercy. I think that if you’ve ever struggled with shame, disappointment, fear, and the reality of how dark your sin is – then you really will be ministered by this wonderful book, because it is an intimate look at David’s Psalm 51.

I must also add that recently in the blogosphere, Dr. Tripp has been the subject of much discussion on both Steve Camp’s blog and Ingrid Schlueter’s blog Slice of Laodicea. Ironically, the day I interviewed Dr. Tripp, was the day that both Steve and Ingrid wrote their blog posts about him. I had the opportunity to share with Dr. Tripp some of the comments Ingrid wrote on her blog, as well as some Steve had written and his response was very gracious. In a nutshell, he said that they both missed the point.

I asked Dr. Tripp if he cared to talk about that in our interview, and he declined. He chose rather to focus on his new book, Whiter Than Snow. I think that was a wise decision, and I share this with you, because I know some of you who read this blog, may take issue with me for even interviewing Dr. Tripp on his new book based on some of the commentary from Steve and Ingrid. I hope if you are one of those people, you will take the time to listen to the show.

The following video is a trailer for his new book Whiter Than Snow.
