Facing Fear As Jesus Did
One of the special gifts I bought for a whole bunch of people this year was a small devotional book called Grace for the Moment, Volume II by Max Lucado. I bought 20 copies and handed 19 of them out to various people I know at work, school and in my networking group, and without fail, everyone appreciated the gift.
Which is why I wanted to share part of today’s devotion with you. The scripture today is taken from the eyewitness account of Luke 22:42 and says, “Father, if you are willing, take away this cup of suffering.” – This of course, is referring to Jesus as He’s preparing to go to the cross.
Lucado explains that Jesus was fearful at this point and instead of hiding His fear, He shared it with His Father first, and then we also are told. Lucado also makes the point that Jesus could have gone to His mother or His disciples who were with Him in the garden, and yet He didn’t. Instead He set the example we are to follow, and He prayed to His Father instead.
In our world of self sufficiency and a world that is dominated by negative images in the news and media, it’s not uncommon for people to feel fear. I see it all the time with the people I work with. And most of the time the things we fear never come to pass. Which is why I like to share with people that fear is really

False Evidence Appearing Real.
It really is when you think about it, and fear can be conquered so easily if we cast all of our cares upon God, knowing that He cares for us, and we also remember that most of what we fear never comes to pass.
In the case of Jesus, and the story we saw today, that did come to pass, and ironically, it’s because Jesus endured the cross that He has told us to “Fear Not” for He has overcome the world.
