Active Christian Media Declares Mike Huckabee the Winner of Tonight’s You Tube Debate

by Stacy L. Harp on November 29, 2007

As I watched the debate tonight on CNN with great questions asked from You Tube viewers, I have to tell you that I thought that Mike Huckabee did another outstanding job answering questions, using humor and clarifying some of the attacks against him.

He was unashamed to answer the question about whether or not he believed every word in the Bible, unlike “Evangelical” Mormon flip flopper Mitt Romney who totally fumbled all over himself as he said that he declared the bible the Word of God. What Romney couldn’t say honestly is that he believes the bible more than the book of Mormon.

Huckabee also answered the question on the death penalty really well and explained that the difference between the death penalty and being pro-life is a matter of justice. Most liberals who don’t like the death penalty seem to think that you can’t be pro-life and pro-death penalty – and they are just wrong on the issue.

When asked about whether or not Jesus would support the death penalty, Huckabee used a little humor in his answer, and I would’ve preferred at that point for him to answer the question this way, “Yes, Jesus would support the death penalty, afterall He chose to die on the cross for MY sin and the sin of the whole world, so that He could overcome death.” – But I can understand why he didn’t either think of that answer or go down that road.

Mitt Romney was clearly fumbling all over himself tonight and so was Fred Thompson. And as long as hard questions of faith come up Romney will continue to fumble. Thompson has no chance of winning the nomination. He’s old, very tired and he looks like a miserable person. He doesn’t even look very happy most of the time, and while I agree with his pro-life position, I could never see him as President.

McCain and Rudy stood out with many of their comments, however, on issues of faith, Rudy loses clearly. McCain wins on being a hero, but will never be President either. Rudy continues to tout his NY record, but fails to acknowledge those of us who have strong feelings on faith, morality and life issues.

Ron Paul, as usual, had a strong showing of support with some applause, but he’s not going to win as a Republican.

Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo are both great guys, but again, they don’t have the support. So if those two would drop out of the race, I’m confident their followers would run to Huckabee’s campaign.

And as many in the liberal media like to blast Huck for his faith and being a former minister, Mike is using their attacks to garner more support. The faith community will not be ignored and shall not be underestimated.

As for the best line of the night. When answering a question about the space program, Huckabee declared that Hillary should go to Mars.
