What Will It Take to Protect Children

by Stacy L. Harp on June 21, 2007

See the picture to your left, this is Timothy Cox who was the ringleader of one of the largest online pedophile child porn rings that thankfully was busted up recently. And I don’t want to spend my time blogging about this creep or the 700 other creeps that were arrested for things like raping babies a few months old while other perverts watched it live.

What I care about is the children that they victimized and brutalized and hurt beyond words. I’ve been thinking about this story since it broke and with the exception of one radio show that covered the bust, I haven’t heard much about the children. Everything is always about the perverts and their dirty deeds…and my heart breaks.

I am sickened at the depths of depravity in the human heart and I’m sickened that little babies and children were so violently treated. I can’t even begin to imagine how I would feel if any of these children were my babies. My hope and my prayers will be for the quickest possible recovery from their horrendous ordeals, for all these children. I hope that all of those children are placed in homes where they will be safe. Where they will learn again how to trust. Where they will get nurtured and loved appropriately.

I hope that their nightmares will stop and that as they go into counseling and try to deal with the horrific things they dealt with – those who are able to anyway, that those professionals and caregivers will have wisdom, patience and a lot of love to give to these precious babies. And I will pray that the Lord will comfort and strengthen them as well.

I wonder when the world will really wake up to the problem of childhood sexual abuse and childhood sexual trauma. I wonder what it will take for some parents to get a clue and take parenting seriously. I also wonder when the justice system will properly execute judgement on the perpetrators who commit these types of crimes. I wonder….

As for me, all I can do is remind you who are reading, that children are precious and they need to be treated with respect and not abused. Children are not meant for sex or sexual exploitation. They are children…they need to be children and most importantly they need adults to love and protect them, not violate them. Lord willing, someday sane adults will get the message. I just hope that it doesn’t take their children’s victimization to wake them up.
