Speech is Silver, But Silence is Golden
A few days I purchased this book 30 Days to Taming Your Tongue by Deborah Smith Pegues and I want to highly encourage everyone to get a copy of this wonderful book. Deborah does an absolutely wonderful job of breaking down the different ways we use our tongue and then offers a great scriptural application for us to meditate upon so that we can change the way we speak.
There are so many jewels in this book it’s amazing. For example, in the last chapter titled The Silent Tongue Deborah writes, “Speech is silver, but silence is golden.” She writes this to tell us that first, this proverb that we always hear “Silence is golden” is only actually the second half of the proverb, and to show us that the value of speech is like silver. In fact, silver used to be considered more valuable than gold.
In another chapter she writes, “Learn from the burn, but forgive to live.” She says this in the context of discussing the betraying tongue. And her point is that all of us have been burned by someone at sometime because of how someone has spoken against us. Offering forgiveness releases us to live in freedom.
So…if you want a wonderful, easy to read and challenging to apply book, I want to encourage you to buy a copy of this book today. It’s wonderful.
