The Name of Jesus

by Stacy L. Harp on January 2, 2007

One of the things I gained last year was a new love for history.  So this year I thought I would incorporate religious history into my posts on this blog.

According to the calendar of saints in the Roman Catholic and Lutheran and other Anglican traditions, today is known as the Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus.

From Wikipedia…

The celebration has been held on different dates, usually in January, since 1 January, eight days after Christmas, commemorates the circumcision of the child Jesus, when, as recounted in the Gospel read on that day, "at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb" (Luke 2:21).

"And when eight days had passed, before His circumcision, His name was [then] called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb." – Luke 2:21
