Gov. Schwarzenegger Signs Into Law “Outrageous” SB 1441">Gov. Schwarzenegger Signs Into Law “Outrageous” SB 1441

The following is a Press Release from the Pacific Justice Institute

Sacramento, CA—Religious liberty advocates are expressing outrage and frustration today as Governor Schwarzenegger signed into law a bill designed to greatly restrict the ability of individuals and institutions to express their religious viewpoints against homosexuality.

SB 1441, authored by lesbian State Sen. Sheila Kuehl, will implement sweeping changes into state law by adding “sexual orientation” to the list of protected classifications in state accommodation laws. California law will now require that no person be denied “full and equal access” based on sexual orientation (defined to include bisexuality) or sex (including transgender behavior) to any program or activity which is funded directly by the state or “receives any financial assistance from the state.” According to the Senate Committee Report on SB 1441, “[T]he impact of this bill is both wide-ranging and deep. It will also affect contractors with the state (such as nonprofits) where the services provided locally are directly funded by the state or where the contractor receives any financial assistance from the state.” This provision appears to be designed to stop any state funding, contracts or grants from going to religious institutions or nonprofits, such as inner-city ministries and religious schools, which hold traditional or Biblical opposition to homosexuality or transgender behavior.

Brad Dacus, president of Pacific Justice Institute, commented, “This is a dark day in California for everyone who believes in the importance of religious institutions. Governor Schwarzenegger has betrayed the trust and civil rights of Californians who hold traditional, religious opposition to certain types of sexual behavior. This declaration of open hostility and intolerance by the state will result in financial hardship to countless religious ministries, schools and service organizations. We at Pacific Justice Institute have been researching this outrageous legislation and will be preparing for the inevitable legal assault against religious institutions which it will entail.”

Please visit our website, www.pacificjustice.org , to respond to our poll question: Do you agree with Governor Schwarzenegger’s decision to sign into law SB 1441?

Dr. JP Moreland Discusses The Lost Virtue of Happiness">Dr. JP Moreland Discusses The Lost Virtue of Happiness

MorelandbIt’s not everyday that I get to sit down and talk to one  of the most brilliant apologetic scholars of our day, so when I was told about this new book by Dr. JP Moreland and Dr. Klaus Issler, I knew I had to get the book.

After I got the book, I knew I had to interview one of the authors, and so Dr. Moreland was gracious enough to take time out of his Sunday afternoon to have a conversation with me about his latest book The Lost Virtue of Happiness: Discovering the Disciplines of the Good Life.

This is by far one of the best books I’ve read concerning the application of scripture and the integration of psychology.  Drs. Moreland and Issler have truly given the reader a feast of ideas, exercises and biblical insight concerning how to form a receptive heart towards God and others, ways to keep your mind stayed on God, risking with God and how to defeat two of the greatest problems in our day - anxiety and depression.

This book is also packed with personal testimony from both Doctors and if I was a teacher and you were in my classroom, this would be  required reading.

Listen now to my conversation with Dr. JP Moreland discussing this book The Lost Virtue of Happiness.

The Blessing of Operation Blessing">The Blessing of Operation Blessing

Pat_robertsonToday is the first year anniversary of the disaster we all know as Katrina, and this morning on The 700 Club did some special news coverage on the progress that has been made in New Orleans.  I was especially touched by the list that Pat Robertson read to us viewers concerning the work his ministry Operation Blessing has done in the last  year.

Here is what he read on the air, and I think it’s amazing what GOD’S PEOPLE are doing.  This is an OVERVIEW, not EVERYTHING they have done.  Keep that in mind as you read this amazing list.

Provided 278 fast cash grants totaling 4.7 million dollars to 220 faith based organizations

Delivered 291 truckloads , 11.3 millions pounds of food and supplies

Served 880,000 hot meals to residents and volunteers from  the Operation Blessing kitchens

Donated over 118,000 volunteer hours

Have a free dental clinic in St. Bernard Parrish

Have a free medical clinic in New Orleans East

Treated over 8000 patients, filled nearly 16,000 prescriptions, given 600 immunizations for hepatitis A, B and tetanus

Delivered over a million and 300,000  pounds of lumber and building supplies and given 23 million dollars worth of medicine to LSU’s health care system for Katrina victims

Treated 4300 swimming pools to get rid of mosquito larva, in order to stop disease.

Amazing isn’t it?   I think so.  But this is what can be done and is being done by the ministry that Pat Robertson started years ago.  The Lord has definitely blessed the work of this man’s hands, and every person who has so generously donated to help those in need.

Compared to the living and striving and glorifying Church of Jesus Christ, the One True God, no other organization, club, community or person has ever done more.  This is the Love of God working through His people and no one else.

Why would anyone not want to serve Christ?
