Today I noted that Matt Drudge is making a big deal about the show that Oprah aired yesterday concerning sex addiction. And I had planned on mentioning this show but not for the same reasons he’s apparently sensationalizing it.
The sad thing about this show is that it’s taking Oprah, once again, to talk about the issue that most churches in America won’t - sexual addiction. One reason why I think churches fail to address this issue is because her leaders are involved in it themselves. Yes, I’m saying the pastors, elders and many many members of the church congregants.
In fact, I heard a wonderful podcast this morning, hosted by two of my favorite pastors - Mike Foster and Craig Gross, from Dirty Little Secrets radio who actually spoke to a pastor who came clean with his church about his porn addiction. If you like to hear truth, I’d encourage you to check out the show.
Back to Oprah…the thing about Oprah that I have to give her credit for is that she is at least trying to address the issues. One guest she had on yesterday was a woman who confessed not only to her, but the world, that “she hadn’t even confessed it to her Lord and Savior”, and we all know who that is!
So let’s not be naive about the problem of porn, sexual addiction or immorality in the church. It’s time to wake up, and thank people like Oprah for actually having the courage to discuss the issues, even though people like Drudge want to sensationalize it. I didn’t see her show as sensational at all, in fact, I saw her show as very serious, well done and relatively informed….as far as Oprah can be informed and not being a therapist herself. (Although I like to say “she plays one on tv”)
I’ll have video clips of the episode later today.
