Randal Is the New Apprentice

Did you see the season finale of The Apprentice last night? I did and it was a great episode up until Randal blew it with his total selfishness.

I was rooting for Randal the whole season – why? Because he is a good leader, charming and apparently pretty smart. But he was up against Rebecca who was a formidable opponent, and even though I didn’t initially like her as much, I was hoping that Trump would hire both of them – and he would’ve if Randal didn’t show his true colors and deny Rebecca the honor of winning too.

So I felt a little bit upset at the end because I couldn’t believe that such a nice guy would be such a poor winner. The competition was over, and Trump hired him first, so why the insecurity with Rebecca being hired too?

Augh…

You know, there’s all kinds of speculation as to who was better, and if the purpose was to “win” something, Randall got it. But if the purpose was to find the better person, Trump tripped.

All through the show Randall played Mr. Humble, lifting people up to gain his win, but then held that winning record over Rebecca like she was nothing because of her losses (which were largely the result of the bickering women on her team). Sure, Randall won his final task, but not because he was a solid leader who was determined to do it right. He left his poor employee to put the whole thing together while he chatted with the others in the booth (even pointing down at him saying, look how hard he’s working). Rebecca didn’t rain out and her only mistake in the final task was listening to Yahoo (and who wouldn’t, seriously, in those shoes).

Over all, I think it turned out perfectly. I think like “American Idol” it left Rebecca glowing in the end and likely getting tons of phone calls from all across the country for job offers better than Randalls new apprenticeship, which she wouldn’t be able to take had she “won” the show. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump hires her himself when everything has died down, and at a position higher than Randall!
