Pictures from CARR

I know you’ve been waiting for these, so I got up really early so I could upload them and you could look at them all day long if you’d like. :)

As you can see this was held at the National Press Club and this place was impressive. I know I didn’t get to see nearly all of the place, but what I saw was very cool.

Yes, this is me with the infamous La Shawn Barber of The Language Artist :)

I had a great time learning secret insights from the Queen of Blog while we were at lunch both Friday and Saturday. But you’ll have to pay me to find out any inside secrets.

This is Bob Cox aka (Don’t Mess with Me Cox), Me (sweet & lovable), La Shawn and Mr. Mark Tapscott. Of the four of us I think Mark is probably the smartest. :) Well, obviously he is because he’s the oldest and he was teaching us at this CARR bootcamp.

Speaking of Mark, here he is modeling the Media Bloggers Association official cap. Only really special people have these hats, so you have to be impressed that Mark has it. Actually he offered to give it to me, but I didn’t take it because my hair is too big. :)

And that’s it folks…

Live Blogging the CARR Bootcamp

Here it is day 2 and I’m sitting here in the CARR workshop, listening to some exciting material on statistics.

Yes, you read that right….statistics.

Pretty soon you’ll find out why stats are so important.

Except if you’re like me, in grad school we always called them SADistics. :( Pun intended.

Right now we are discussing the Mean, Median & Mode…

Stay tuned…maybe I’ll continue this later….

FIRST UPDATE ONLY MINUTES LATER…
Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you the infamous LaShawn Barber is sitting behind me right now. You should see her…seriously…she’s all interested in this mode, median and mean thing :)

And she tries not to blog on the weekend, so don’t even visit her site today because it won’t be updated.

Mrs. Harp Goes to Washington

Last night as I was preparing for my trip to DC I kept thinking of that old film Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and I couldn’t help but smile. I loved that movie because it was about the little guy trying to make a difference in the world.

Well, I am totally excited about being able to spend some time under the teaching of one Mr. Mark Tapscott of the Heritage Foundation, because not only did I have the pleasure of meeting Mark earlier this year when he was here in Southern California, but Mark is also one of the many who does reviews for Mind & Media.

Mark will be leading a Boot Camp called Database 101/102 CARR - also known as, Computer Assisted Research & Reporting. Sounds fun doesn’t it? :)

I think it will be and because I love, and I do mean LOVE doing research, this will be extra fun for me.

Plus with any luck I will get to meet La Shawn Barber and a few other bloggers that I may know just from their blogs.

I will try to update this blog with some pictures and commentary about my time there over the next few days, and I’d like to hear your feedback as well.

In the meantime, all of you who have reviews to be doing - Do them ! :) The “bookworm nazi” is watching you :)

Now, I’m off to catch my flight…

We also interviewed a very talented and inspiring comic named Paul Aldrich who is hilarious.

And we also interviewed the inspirational Founder of Operation Nehemiah, William Levi, about his book The Bible or the Axe

Take a listen and let us know what you think!

More to Total Truth

A few days ago I wrote about the new edition of Total Truth, but I didn’t really explain why it’s new or why you should go out and purchase it. (Plus I was asked by the sweet author to pass on the info too)

This is the much-anticipated study guide edition of Total Truth. Unlike the typical guide, it is not just a list of questions but includes lots of fresh stories, examples, and illustrations to help readers apply what they are learning. It also interacts with questions that readers have raised. Nancy tells me that she gets email requests for a study guide almost daily, so this new edition will be a great resource for Sunday School classes and study groups.
